    Medium impact

    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Total revenue is sale price multiplied by quantity.
    2. 2Referral fee total is maximum of revenue times referral percent and minimum referral fee per unit times quantity, summed as larger of percent vs minimum floor.
    3. 3FBA fees are pick and pack plus weight handling multiplied by quantity.
    4. 4Storage cost is monthly storage per unit multiplied by quantity.
    5. 5Product and prep combines product cost, inbound shipping, and packaging prep times quantity.
    6. 6Total costs sum referral, FBA fees, storage, product and prep, and closing fee.
    7. 7Net profit is revenue minus total costs.
    8. 8Profit margin is net profit divided by revenue.
    9. 9Break-even price solves for sale price that makes net profit zero.

    Formulas

    • Revenue = salePrice × quantity
    • Referral fee = max(revenue × referral% , referralMinimum)
    • FBA fees = (pickAndPack + weightHandling) × quantity
    • Storage = storagePerUnit × quantity
    • Product & prep = (productCost + inboundShipping + packagingPrep) × quantity
    • Total costs = referral + fbaFees + storage + productAndPrep + closingFee
    • Net profit = revenue − totalCosts
    • Profit margin = netProfit ÷ revenue × 100

    Important assumptions

    • Referral fee percent varies by category. Most categories are 15%, some are 8%, media and other categories differ. Check Seller Central fee schedule for your category.
    • Referral fee is applied to selling price including item and shipping charged to buyer. This calculator uses item price times quantity as revenue base.
    • FBA pick and pack plus weight handling are simplified from Amazon's full size-tier table. Use your exact size tier from FBA fee preview for accuracy.
    • Monthly storage per unit is an estimate based on cubic feet and current storage rates, which change seasonally (higher Q4).
    • Variable closing fee applies only to media categories like books, DVDs, music, video games, and software.
    • Inbound shipping to Amazon, prep, labeling, and bundling are included as separate fields you control.

    Worked example

    Private label kitchen product

You sell a kitchen gadget for $24.99, sourced at $6 per unit, inbound shipping $0.50, prep $0.50, FBA pick $2.50 + weight $1.50, storage $0.10, referral 15% with $0.30 minimum, quantity 1, no closing fee.

Revenue $24.99. Referral fee about $3.75, FBA fees $4.00, storage $0.10, product and prep $7.00, total costs $14.85, net profit about $10.14 for 40.6% margin. Break-even price near $11.80, leaving room for PPC and coupons.
