    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Choose the seller region and let the calculator start with its local currency, commission structure, processing rate, fixed fee, and VAT treatment.
    2. 2Choose a category scenario or turn off the category toggle for a verified manual commission. The high-value promotion remains off unless you enable it for Coins and Money or Collectibles.
    3. 3Calculate commission from item price, applying the optional local-currency threshold only when the selected category is eligible.
    4. 4Calculate payment processing from item price plus buyer-paid shipping and tax, then apply VAT to commission plus processing when the selected region uses VAT on modeled fees.
    5. 5Subtract seller shipping, packaging, and other costs from payout to show contribution, while keeping buyer-paid tax outside seller revenue.

    Formulas

    • Commission = item price × commission%, or min(item price, eligible threshold) × commission% when the promotion is enabled
    • Processing = (item price + buyer-paid shipping + buyer-paid tax) × processing% + fixed fee
    • VAT on fees = (commission + processing) × editable VAT%
    • Payout before seller costs = item price + buyer-paid shipping − commission − processing − VAT on fees
    • Contribution = payout before seller costs − seller shipping − packaging − other seller costs

    Important assumptions

    • Select a seller region first. USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, and EUR are available as display currencies, with a matching regional recommendation.
    • US, Canada, and Australia start at 8% standard or collectibles, 4% Coins and Money, 5% Electronics, and a 12% Sneakers planning scenario. UK and EU start at 6.67% standard, 4% Coins and Money, and the standard planning rate for Electronics and Sneakers.
    • Commission is calculated on item price, or the eligible threshold amount when the optional high-value promotion is enabled. Processing uses item price plus buyer-paid shipping and buyer-paid tax.
    • VAT is applied to Whatnot commission plus payment processing for UK/EU planning only. The default UK/EU VAT planning rate is 20%, and it remains editable because seller treatment varies.
    • Buyer-paid shipping and tax are shown separately. Shipping can help fund fulfillment, while buyer-paid tax stays outside seller revenue.
    • The contribution view subtracts actual shipping, packaging, and other entered costs. It does not include product cost unless you add it to Other seller costs.
    • Promotions, category eligibility, refunds, seller programs, and current account terms can change the result. Verify the current Whatnot schedule before acting.
