    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Annual price = monthlyPrice × 12 × (1 - annualDiscount%).
    2. 2Monthly subscriber fees = avgMonths × (monthlyPrice × processingPct + fixed).
    3. 3Annual subscriber fee = annualPrice × processingPct + fixed.
    4. 4Monthly LTV net = monthlyPrice×avgMonths - monthlyFees.
    5. 5Annual LTV net = annualPrice - annualFee.
    6. 6For annual churn adjustment, effective annual LTV accounts average retention 12 months vs 1 year.
    7. 7Monthly equivalent revenue = MRR for monthly baseline, annual total/12 for annual baseline.

    Formulas

    • Annual = monthly×12×(1-discount%)
    • Fees monthly = months×(monthly×pct+fixed)
    • Fees annual = annual×pct+fixed
    • LTV monthly = monthly×months - feesMonthly
    • LTV annual = annual - feesAnnual
    • Benefit = LTV annual - LTV monthly

    Important assumptions

    • Monthly LTV = monthlyPrice × avgMonths minus processing fees per transaction.
    • Annual LTV = annualPrice single term minus one processing fee; for simplicity assumes one year LTV with annual churn probability applied separately.
    • Processing fee = price × pct + fixed per transaction; monthly incurs avgMonths transactions, annual incurs 1.
    • MRR model uses subscriberCount baseline, not accounting for new adds, just cohort value.
    • Monthly costs not subtracted from per-sub LTV, but used for overall net profit comparison.

    Worked example

$12.99 monthly vs annual at 20% off

    $12.99/mo or $124.70/yr (20% off). 100 subscribers, 5% monthly churn avg 7 months, 15% annual churn, 2.9% + $0.30 processing, $300 monthly costs.

Annual $124.70 vs 12×$12.99=$155.88 save $31. Monthly subscriber avg 7 months = $90.93 gross, fees 7×($12.99×2.9%+$0.30)=7×$0.677=$4.74 fees net $86.19 LTV. Annual net $124.70 - ($124.70×2.9%+$0.30)=$124.70-$3.92=$120.78. Annual nets $34.59 more per subscriber even at 20% discount due to lower processing and zero monthly churn within year. For 100 subs monthly model $8619 LTV cohort vs $12078 annual cohort.
