How it works
Methodology & formulas
This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.
Calculation steps
- 1Calculate transactions from orders or subscribers and the selected horizon.
- 2Calculate gross revenue, discounts, refunds, and net sales.
- 3Apply platform and payment costs to net sales, with the fixed processor fee applied per transaction.
- 4Multiply product and fulfillment costs by transactions.
- 5Add marketing spend and monthly plan cost multiplied by the scenario months.
- 6Subtract total costs from gross revenue to find net profit and margin.
- 7Use per-subscriber contribution to estimate the break-even order or subscriber count.
Formulas
- Transactions = units, or subscribers × months when recurring
- Gross = price × transactions
- Net sales = gross × (1 − discount% − refund%)
- Processing = net sales × processing% + transactions × fixed fee
- Total costs = discounts + refunds + platform + processing + product + fulfillment + marketing + plan overhead
- Net profit = gross − total costs
- Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ contribution per unit, rounded up
Important assumptions
- The platform fee and monthly plan inputs are editable Sellfy planning assumptions. The default 2% and zero monthly overhead do not claim to represent a universal current Sellfy plan.
- For recurring revenue, orders equal subscribers multiplied by the modeled months. This is a retention scenario, not a churn or conversion forecast.
- Discounts and refunds reduce listed gross revenue before percentage fees. Fixed payment processing is modeled on each payment.
- Product and fulfillment costs are per payment. For digital subscriptions, include content, hosting, or service allocation; for physical and POD products, include the cost you pay to deliver each order.
- Marketing spend and platform plan overhead are fixed across the modeled horizon. Taxes, chargebacks, and currency conversion are not automatically included.
