Digital Product Seller Profit Calculator
Model a month of downloads, templates, bundles, or other digital product sales from units and average price to after-reserve profit. The calculator keeps platform commission separate from payment processing, then shows payout or FX, refunds, delivery, content creation, ads, software, overhead, tax reserve, profit per sale, hours, and break-even units. Use one bundle as one sale with its own price and content allocation.

How it works
Methodology & formulas
This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.
Calculation steps
- 1Calculate gross revenue from monthly units and average price.
- 2Apply platform and processor charges as separate lines.
- 3Subtract payout, refund reserve, delivery, content, and marketing costs.
- 4Subtract monthly software and overhead.
- 5Calculate pre-tax and after-reserve profit, margin, per-sale profit, and hourly result.
- 6Estimate break-even units from contribution per sale and monthly fixed costs.
Formulas
- Gross revenue = sales × average price
- Platform fees = gross × platform% + platform fixed × sales
- Processing = gross × processor% + processor fixed × sales
- Payout = gross × payout or FX% + payout fixed allocation × sales
- Pre-tax profit = gross − platform − processing − payout − refunds − product costs − operating costs
- After-reserve profit = pre-tax profit − max(0, pre-tax profit) × reserve rate
- Break-even units = ceiling(monthly fixed costs ÷ contribution per sale)
Important assumptions
- Platform percentage and fixed fee are editable and start at zero. The category includes many routes, so no named marketplace rate is applied.
- Processor defaults start at an illustrative 2.9% plus $0.30 context. Replace them with current payment terms, and keep them separate from platform fees.
- Delivery, content creation, and marketing are variable per-sale costs. Software and other overhead are monthly fixed costs.
- A bundle counts as one sale. Enter its average price and allocate its larger creation and delivery work in the per-sale fields.
- Break-even uses contribution before tax reserve and does not forecast traffic, conversion, refunds beyond the entered reserve, or demand.
