    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Calculate current rate from visitors and conversions.
    2. 2Compare to 2.5% average benchmark.
    3. 3Calculate total conversions needed = visitors × targetRate%.
    4. 4Gap = needed − actual, floored at 0 for extra needed but keep total for display.
    5. 5If current rate >0, estimate extra traffic needed as gap / currentRate decimal.

    Formulas

    • currentRate = conversions / visitors × 100
    • rateVsAverage = currentRate − 2.5
    • conversionsNeeded = ceil(visitors × targetRate/100)
    • additionalNeeded = max(0, conversionsNeeded − conversions)
    • extraTraffic = additionalNeeded / (currentRate/100)

    Important assumptions

    • Current rate = (totalConversions / totalVisitors) × 100.
    • Industry average displayed as 2.5% reference for general websites.
    • Rate vs average = currentRate − 2.5.
    • Conversions needed for target = ceil(visitors × targetRate/100).
    • Additional conversions = max(0, needed − actual).
    • Extra traffic at current rate = additionalConversions / (currentRate/100) when rate >0.

    Worked example

    5,000 visitors, 150 conversions, 3% target

    5,000 visitors, 150 conversions = 3.0% current, target 3% — already at target. Try 3.5% target instead.

Current 3% equals 2.5% average +0.5%. Target 3.5% needs 175 conversions at 5k visitors, gap 25 extra conversions, about 834 extra visitors at 3% to get 25 orders if rate unchanged.
