    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Add item, actual shipping, packaging, and other costs.
    2. 2Subtract the buyer-paid shipping contribution from the target cost and profit requirement.
    3. 3Divide by one minus the editable seller fee rate to solve for item price.
    4. 4Recalculate the fee, profit, and margin at the minimum and suggested prices.

    Formulas

    • C = itemCost + actualShippingCost + packagingCost + otherCosts
    • Subtotal = price + shippingCharged
    • Seller Fee = Subtotal × sellerFeePercent
    • Price = [C + desiredProfit − shippingCharged × (1 − sellerFeeRate)] ÷ (1 − sellerFeeRate)
    • Suggested Price = ceil(minimumPrice) − 0.01

    Important assumptions

    • Starting U.S. model: seller fee = (price + shipping charged) × 10%.
    • Seller fee rate is editable for legacy listings, non-U.S. sellers, account terms, or future changes.
    • Profit = (price + shipping charged) − seller fee − item cost − shipping you pay − packaging − other costs.
    • Shipping charged lowers the required item price, while any label cost you cover remains in total costs.
    • The inverse equation requires a seller fee rate below 100%.

    Worked example

    Want $12 profit on a $10 item

Item cost $10, packaging $1, shipping you pay $0, other costs $0, shipping charged $0, seller fee rate 10%, desired profit $12.

Total costs are $11. Minimum price is ($11 + $12) ÷ 0.90 = $25.56. The seller fee is $2.56 and profit is $12.00. Suggested $25.99 produces about $12.39 profit before item rounding effects. If the buyer pays $8 shipping and you still pay no label cost, the minimum item price falls to about $16.67 while the buyer subtotal stays about $24.67.
