    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Total effective percent = finalValueFeePercent + promotedListingsPercent.
    2. 2Total fixed fees = finalValueFeeFixed + insertionFee.
    3. 3Fulfillment = productCost + actualShippingCost + packagingCost.
    4. 4Recommended price uses formula (fulfillment + fixed + target + shippingCharged*fee%) / (1 - fee%) as specified.
    5. 5Buyer total = recommendedPrice + shippingCharged.
    6. 6Effective margin = targetProfit divided by buyer total.
    7. 7Markup = targetProfit divided by fulfillment costs.

    Formulas

    • Effective fee % = FVF% + Promoted%
    • Fixed fees = FVF fixed + insertion
    • Fulfillment = product + actualShipping + packaging
    • Recommended = (Fulfillment + Fixed + Target + ShippingCharged×Fee%) ÷ (1 − Fee%)
    • Buyer total = Recommended + shippingCharged
    • Margin = Target ÷ Buyer total × 100

    Important assumptions

    • eBay percent fees apply to total buyer pays (item price + shipping charged).
    • Fixed fees are counted once per order at recommended price.
    • If shipping charged is zero, recommended price already includes shipping coverage.
    • Combined percent fees must stay below 100% for algebra to solve.
    • This is pre-tax and does not include refunds, cases, or currency conversion.

    Worked example

    Need $15 profit

Product $10, actual shipping $4.99, packaging $1.25, shipping charged $4.99, target $15, FVF 13.25% + $0.40, no insertion, no promoted.

Fulfillment $16.24, fixed $0.40, target $15, fee 13.25% effective. Formula gives about $36.70 recommended item price, buyer total $41.69, effective margin about 36%.
