    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Calculate product subtotal from unit price times order quantity.
    2. 2Let the variable subtotal rate equal marketplace commission plus payment processing percentage.
    3. 3Solve the subtotal so payout after commission, new-customer fee, and processing reaches the selected required payout.
    4. 4For a profit goal, required payout equals target profit plus all entered product and operating costs.
    5. 5Divide the solved subtotal by order quantity to return the recommended wholesale unit price.

    Formulas

    • Required payout = targetAmount for payout goal, or targetAmount + product and operating costs for profit goal
    • Subtotal payout = subtotal × (1 − commission% − processing%) + shippingReimbursement × (1 − processing%) − newCustomerFee − processingFixed
    • Product subtotal = [required payout − shippingReimbursement × (1 − processing%) + newCustomerFee + processingFixed] ÷ [1 − commission% − processing%]
    • Recommended unit price = product subtotal ÷ orderQuantity

    Important assumptions

    • This solves a brand-side wholesale price for a US or North America planning scenario.
    • Marketplace commission is applied to product subtotal, not shipping reimbursement. Payment processing is modeled on product subtotal plus shipping reimbursement.
    • Faire Direct defaults to 0% commission and $0 new-customer fee. First versus reorder matters only for a marketplace-discovered order.
    • The target profit includes product, packaging, shipping, and other costs. The target payout option stops before those costs.
    • Payout speed, region, and brand account terms vary. Older 25% or 15% articles may be pre-July 2024. Verify current terms at https://help.faire.com.
