    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Item subtotal equals price per unit multiplied by order quantity.
    2. 2Order revenue equals item subtotal plus shipping charged to the buyer.
    3. 3Etsy fees combine listing fee, transaction percentage, payment processing percentage and fixed fee, and optional Offsite Ads percentage.
    4. 4Payout before product costs equals order revenue minus all modeled Etsy fees.
    5. 5Seller costs combine product cost per unit times quantity, packaging, shipping, and returns or other order costs.
    6. 6Estimated profit equals payout before product costs minus seller costs.

    Formulas

    • Item subtotal = unit price × order quantity
    • Order revenue = item subtotal + shipping charged
    • Transaction fee = order revenue × transaction fee %
    • Processing fee = order revenue × processing % + fixed processing fee
    • Offsite Ads fee = order revenue × Offsite Ads %
    • Total Etsy fees = listing fee + transaction fee + processing fee + Offsite Ads fee
    • Payout before product costs = order revenue − total Etsy fees

    Important assumptions

    • Historical Etsy Wholesale was discontinued in 2018. This calculator does not apply the historical joining fee or historical wholesale transaction fee.
    • The current replacement model uses regular Etsy checkout for a bulk or trade-style order.
    • US planning defaults are $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, about 3% plus $0.25 payment processing, and 0% Offsite Ads unless you enter another rate.
    • Percentage fees apply to item subtotal plus shipping charged. The listing fee and processing fixed fee are counted once per order, not once per unit.
    • Payment processing is country-specific. Confirm the current Etsy Fees & Payments Policy at https://www.etsy.com/legal/fees/ and Seller Policies at https://www.etsy.com/legal/sellers/.
    • Taxes, refunds, currency conversion, reserves, and account-specific terms are not included unless you add them to an editable cost field.
