Etsy Discount Calculator

Discounts lift conversion but cut margin faster than most sellers expect because Etsy fees still apply to the discounted price. Enter your regular price, discount percent, and true costs to see profit before and after the sale, margin impact, and the sales multiplier needed to hold profit flat.

    How it works

    Methodology & formulas

This calculator is transparent by design. Review the steps and formulas so you can trust the estimate and adjust assumptions when your dashboard differs.

    Calculation steps

    1. 1Discounted price = regularPrice × (1 − discountPercent/100).
    2. 2Regular revenue = regularPrice + shippingCharged.
    3. 3Discounted revenue = discountedPrice + shippingCharged.
    4. 4Fees = revenue × (transaction%+processing%)/100 + processingFixed + listingFee.
    5. 5Net profit = revenue − (productCost + packagingCost + actualShippingCost) − fees.
    6. 6Profit drop = regularNetProfit − discountedNetProfit.
    7. 7Margin = netProfit / revenue × 100.
    8. 8Volume needed = ceil(regularProfit / discountedProfit) when both positive.

    Formulas

    • discountedPrice = regular × (1 − discount%)
    • revenue = itemPrice + shippingCharged
    • fees = revenue × (txn%+proc%)/100 + fixed + listing
    • netProfit = revenue − productCosts − fulfillment − fees
    • volumeNeeded = regularProfit / discountedProfit

    Important assumptions

    • Discount applies to item price only, shipping charged stays the same.
    • Etsy percentage fees apply to discounted total (item + shipping charged).
    • Fixed fees per order remain the same regardless of discount.
    • Product, packaging, and actual shipping costs stay constant — discount does not change your costs.
    • Volume needed to match regular profit assumes you can sustain higher order count without raising overhead.

    Worked example

    $29.99 item at 20% off

    $29.99 regular, 20% off = $23.99. Shipping $4.99 both charged and actual $4.99, product $10, packaging $1.50, Etsy fees 6.5%+3%+$0.45.

Regular profit about $14.72 with 42% margin. At 20% off profit falls to about $8.15 with 28% margin. You need roughly 2 discounted sales to match one regular profit.
