Calculation steps
- 1Calculate monthly gross revenue from average price and sales or subscriber volume.
- 2Apply the selected Podia platform rate, processor charges, currency and other fees.
- 3Subtract product, delivery, email overage, refund reserve, plan, marketing, and other operating costs.
- 4Calculate profit, margin, profit per sale, and the sales volume needed to cover monthly fixed costs.
- 5Keep tax collected at checkout outside the profit calculation.
Formulas
- Gross revenue = average price × monthly sales
- Processing = gross × processing % + fixed fee × sales
- Optional charges = gross × (currency + other %) + other fixed × sales
- Net profit = gross − Podia fee − processing − optional charges − delivery − email overage − plan − operating costs − refund reserve
- Break-even sales = (plan + email overage + monthly operating costs) ÷ positive contribution per sale
- Profit margin = net profit ÷ gross revenue × 100
Important assumptions
- Mover starts at a 5% Podia transaction fee. Shaker and Earthquaker start at 0%, but processor costs, plan cost, optional charges, and operating costs still reduce profit.
- Stripe or PayPal processing starts at 2.9% plus $0.30 per payment. Replace it with your own processor statement because terms vary.
- Email subscriber overage is a monthly input for costs above included plan limits. Subscriber limits and overage pricing vary, so enter the amount that applies to your account.
- Podia may calculate tax at checkout, but tax collected for a buyer is pass-through money rather than creator profit. The creator remains responsible for tax compliance.
- Refund reserve is a planning allowance. Podia platform fees may be returned while processor fees may not, so check the current refund policy.
- Break-even sales use positive contribution after variable fees, reserves, product, delivery, and other per-sale costs. A loss-making contribution returns zero rather than Infinity.
